Viktor Tupolev is a Russian Submarine commander in the Soviet Navy in charge of the Soviet Alfa class submarine Konovalov. He is Marko Ramius' former student. He attempts to destroy Red October in a tense submarine battle, but with US help and Ramius' clever thinking, his submarine is destroyed by its own torpedo, killing him and his crew.
