Solomon Mendelev is a character that appears in the novel, The Sum of All Fears.
Biography[]
In 1991, Mendelev was an Orthodox Jewish rabbi in New York City. He later becomes well known for his accusation that the U.S. government of trying to subjugate Israel through DDCI Jack Ryan's Middle East peace treaty. Although he has never set foot in Israel himself due to his religious beliefs, he sparks widespread opposition to the Treaty among the Israeli public. National Security Advisor Elizabeth Elliot's attitude towards Mendelev worsens Ryan's relationship with her and eventually leads her to start a smear campaign against Ryan.
