Laia Brossa is a character that appears in the novel, Firing Point. In 2020, she was an agent for Centro Nacional de Inteligencia.

Biography[]

Brossa's mother died in a car accident in 2001. Her father was a teacher who taught english for twenty years which allowed her to become fluent in the language. Despite english being her father's third language, he started suffering from dementia in the 2010s and forgot how to speak it. Her aunt refused to look after her father, forcing Brossa to be his sole caretaker when she was not as an agent for Centro Nacional de Inteligencia.

On October 24, 2020, Brossa arrived at the popular restaurant L'avi in Barcelona following a bombing that was supposedly done by Brigada Catalan. She met Jack Ryan, Jr. at the scene who was tending to the wounded and his friend RenƩe Moore who succumbed from her injuries. Brossa questioned Ryan and was told that RenƩe's last word was "Sammler". Brossa told Ryan that she would look into the name and bombing further and would keep Ryan in the loop of the investigation as much as possible. Brossa was later told to cooperate with Ryan as much as possible as her boss had a relationship with Ryan's boss, Gerry Hendley.

The next day, Brossa invited Ryan to her office to discuss the investigation further. She told him they had found three people with the name Sammler who had been in the city at the time of the bombing. She then showed him a photograph of NoĆØlia Aleixandri. Ryan confirmed that he had seen Aleixandri speaking to someone on bluetooth shortly before the bombing. Brossa told him that Aleixandri was a known member of Brigada Catalan and that she died from the explosion. She also revealed that they did not find a bluetooth mic at the restaurant. Ryan suggested they could track Aleixandri's movements through traffic cameras to see who she was talking to. Brossa explained that since Aleixandri had not been charged with a crime before her death, it would take them at least two weeks to obtain the warrants to release the footage. Brossa and Ryan then told each other about their families and Ryan explained what he had learned about the Spanish Civil War during his time in the country. Brossa then received a personal call about her father, prompting Ryan to make his leave. Before he left, he told Brossa that he would stay as long as possible to see justice for Moore.
